Stunning Slovakia:-
Bear Watching | Bear Tracking | Non-baited Bear Watching | Europe Bear WatchStunning Slovakia offers unique and exhilarating including a bear tour and bear watching tour into previously inaccessible areas of wildlife. We are able to do this by integrating these tours into our Project Bear programme which we are undertaking with the High Tatras National Park Authority. Each bear tour and bear watching tour is centred around a unique opportunity to track bears in their natural habitat. There is no baiting of bears to bring them to hides as is usually the case with many of the other bear watching tours in Europe. A combination of the terrain and expert knowledge of the bears in the region gives us a very high success rate in watching bears without artificially affecting their behaviour. We believe that we are the only Eurasian bear watching outfit that can offer non-hide based trips with a virtually guaranteed chance of sightings. Although as part of Project Bear we collar bears, and follow them using GPS, we do not track these particular animals. However due to them living in the regions in which we take tourists there is a chance of seeing them as well. The areas in which we work are not only prohibited to any other tourists but are also rich in other wildlife such as wolves, the endemic Tatra Chamois, the endemic Tatra Marmot, roe and red deer, lynx, pine martins and many birds including golden eagles.
Clearly, the bear watching is the centre-piece of all of our tours, but it can obviously be combined with the rich cultural heritage of this stunning country - Slovakia.
The awe-inspiring brown bear lives in the forests and mountains of Europe, northern North America, and Asia. It is the most widely distributed bear in the world. Population estimates for the Tatras and surrounding area vary enormously from 400 to 1400 animals depending on which lobby you believe. This discrepancy alone highlights the need for further research. What is certain is that the bear density in the region is one of the highest in the world.
